DES PLAINES, Ill.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–According to a survey released today by the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), 85 percent of those surveyed believe distressed properties, such as foreclosures and short sales, can be good deals. More than four out of five (84 percent) respondents state they would be more likely to purchase a foreclosed or short sale property if a home inspector found it to be in good condition. This boost in confidence delivered by a home inspection conducted by an ASHI-Certified Inspector (ACI) may be an additional factor to help increase sales of these distressed properties, depleting surplus of inventory and spurring the recovery of the housing market.

The online survey1 was recently conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of ASHI to better understand current consumer perceptions about the value of a home inspection. Almost nine in 10 (88 percent) adults say a home inspection increases their confidence about the condition of a property. Eighty-four percent of adults believe home inspections are a necessity, not a luxury.

“It is encouraging to learn having a home inspection increases homebuyer confidence,” said Marvin Goldstein, ASHI president. “We look forward to prospective buyers acting on the security brought by home inspections to breathe even more life into the recovering housing market.”

Interestingly, while homeowners are aware of the importance of a home inspection, more than one in four (28 percent) mistakenly believes the purpose of an inspection is to verify that a home complies with local building codes. More than one in 10 (12 percent) confused a home inspection with an appraisal.

ASHI Certified Inspectors subscribe to the ASHI Standards of Practice, which visually examines the condition of the home’s roof, attic and insulation, foundation, basement and structural components, as well as interior plumbing and electrical systems. ASHI is the only home inspection association accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) for its Certified Inspector Program. Mortgage Contracting Services Supports Carry the Load

AMPA, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Mortgage Contracting Services LLC (MCS), a nationwide provider of property preservation, inspections and REO property maintenance to the financial services industry, announced today its support of Carry the Load. The initiative started last year to highlight the meaning of Memorial Day by ultimately driving attention and resources to existing nonprofits already supporting veteran and active duty members of the military, law enforcement, firefighters and their families.

In 2012, Carry the Load will host a 27-day, 1,700-mile relay from West Point, N.Y. to Dallas for participants to literally carry whatever item(s) – sentimental belongings or tokens of American patriotism – along the route to honor the load that service men and women, and surviving families, carry for this country. U.S. Naval Academy graduate, veteran, former SEAL and Carry the Load co-founder Clint Bruce explained, “Together, we can honor those who make sacrifices to serve our country and communities, and instill in our children patriotism and an appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy today as Americans. Having companies like MCS support our endeavors only extends the success we can expect in heightening awareness and monetary support of this cause.”

MCS began internal fundraising in December, raising more than $10,000 in the first few weeks alone, and has launched a second effort to raise employee donations during April. The company will match all employee contributions.

Carry the Load will also host a flagship event in Dallas on Memorial Day. The 20-hour, 12-minute walk will benefit four local Dallas charities: Heroes on the Water, Assist the Officer Foundation, Tip of the Spear and Friends of Dallas Firefighting. MCS has organized a team to walk that day and, with the help of the company, Carry the Load will have its first satellite event (mirroring Dallas’ Memorial Day walk) in Tampa this year with the hope to expand annually.

Bank of America Charitable Foundation to Accept Grant Requests From Nonprofits Addressing Housing Issues

CHARLOTTE, N.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Bank of America Charitable Foundation announced today that it is inviting nonprofit organizations throughout the United States to submit funding proposals for programs that address the nation’s ongoing housing challenges. The company will invest $15 million to support impactful local and national programs and services addressing housing issues, including foreclosure counseling and mitigation, neighborhood stabilization, and affordable housing. This support builds on the bank’s more than $50 million in grants and program-related investments since 2010 to assist nonprofits providing homeowner retention programs, transitional services and revitalization efforts in low- and moderate-income communities across the country.

The Foundation’s request for proposals is an important component in the company’s intensifying focus on housing, jobs and hunger: three areas that are critical to helping strengthen local economies and stimulate the national economic recovery. The bank will issue additional requests for proposals relating to jobs and workforce development and hunger later this year.

Philanthropic support is just one way that Bank of America continues to address the foreclosure crisis and help revitalize neighborhoods. Other efforts include the completion of more than one million loan modifications since January 2008, participation in more than 800 mortgage outreach events since January 2009 and the opening of 50 customer assistance centers in markets hardest hit by foreclosures, providing distressed homeowners with face-to-face counseling and assistance.

The bank is also recognized as one of the largest and most proactive leaders in lending and developing affordable housing in the U.S. In 2011, Bank of America invested more than $1.6 billion to help create more than 11,000 affordable housing units for residents with income restrictions, special needs, seniors and veterans. Metro Jobs Up in 49 out of 50 Cities

SUNNYVALE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–SimplyHired.com®, the world’s largest job search engine, today released its April 2012 Employment Outlook highlighting national and local markets, as well as industry and employer trends. Nationwide job openings increased in March by 5 percent month-over-month and 4.3 percent year-over-year. Nationwide job competition also remained the same at a ratio of three unemployed persons for every one job opening.

Hiring increases in nearly all top metros.

Job openings increased in 49 of the 50 top metro areas in March, compared to 30 metros in February. Metros with the largest job growth include Albuquerque and Santa Fe (8.7 percent), Minneapolis (7.5 percent), West Palm Beach (7.4 percent), and Philadelphia (7.1 percent). Grand Rapids (-2.6 percent) was the only metro with a decline in job openings.

Military, construction jobs increase.

The construction industry shows continued growth for the third consecutive month with an 11.3 percent increase in job openings. Other industries experiencing double digit month-over-month growth in job openings include military (18 percent), media (11.6 percent) and travel (10.9 percent).

Sales, finance jobs decline.

Sales representative job openings decreased by 10.7 percent in March after a strong 53 percent increase in February. Other occupation categories experienced decreases in job openings including financial specialists and accountants (-9.2 percent) and journalists and media workers (-8.3 percent).
