Lending Tree Says Personal Info Given to Competitors

KUSA - Lending Tree says personal information from its clients was taken by employees and given to competing companies. Thousands of people who used the company in the last three years could be affected. The company’s Web site says they’re the leading online lending and realty services exchange. Mary Eldred went to them at one point to get mortgage information and says Lending Tree sent her a letter about her stolen information (Click here to read the letter). “This was 2006 to 2008. Millions of people have refinanced. I was outraged. I went to them to compare mortgage rates,” said Eldred. In its letter, the company states “several former employees” may have shared confidential passwords with “a handful” of lenders that were not approved by the company. The lenders then used those passwords to access customer information files that contained personal mortgage request data such as names, addresses, phone numbers and Social Security numbers. They also had access to income and employment information.
